Dr Anthony Cooke with new CCL CEO, Jonathan Shrewsbury

Dr Anthony Cooke, who has guided CCL as CEO since 2019, has decided to step back from his CEO role to start his journey to retirement. He will remain part of the private lab’s senior leadership team, staying on as Chief Scientific Officer. Joining the helm is Jonathan Shrewsbury who will take on the role of CEO, and work in partnership with Tony to build the future of CCL.

Tony was a founding member of, what is now known as, CCL in 2005. With nearly 40 years’ experience in the diagnostics industry, his loyalty and relationship with the company has seen him a steadfast figure guiding CCL to where they are now.

Tony has driven diagnostic innovation, developed relationships with diagnostic and pharmaceutical companies, and expanded the offering to the NHS.

During 2020, Tony was a key supporter and advisor to the Covid-19 Volunteer Testing Network, and became a key spokesperson on Covid testing in the global media. On reflection of his impact during Covid he has been awarded the role of Scientific Advisory Board Chair for the Laboratory and Testing Industry Organisation - the trade association for the testing industry, covering testing companies and laboratories. 

 

Jonathan Shrewsbury

Jonathan has enjoyed a 30-year career in the healthcare sector. Starting out in NHS physiotherapy, and moving on to travelling the world for ten years in elite sport.

His journey into business and management started in 2006 when he joined forces with Medical Diagnostic Imaging Ltd and co-founded Sports Orthopaedics Spinal Ltd - one of the largest independent teams of musculoskeletal specialists in the UK.

He has also held management roles at Virgin Care, and co-founded Prime Health Diagnostics Ltd - where he worked with esteemed clients such as Premier League Football Clubs, Premiership Rugby Clubs, England RFU, TeamGB, English Institute of Sport and the European Tour.

More recently Jonathan has consulted on numerous healthcare projects both in the UK and globally for private clients, healthcare businesses, private equity, corporate finance companies, doctor groups, elite sports clubs and global brands.
